This semester we have the exciting honor of competing in VISA again along with other dance groups from UF. This competition takes place on March 12th, which is a little earlier than usual. That means we need to hit the ground running! VISA is one of the more rigorous dances we do at Dancin’ Gators and requires a lot of dedication.
Here's some quick background info about VISA in general.
So what is VISA?
VISA stands for Volunteers for International Student Affairs. VISA's mission is to promote cultural awareness and diversity at the University of Florida. Each year, typically during the month of April, VISA puts on a week-long extravaganza promoting their organization. During this week there is a fashion show, talent show, and various other events. Each year, Dancin’ Gators, along with other very well known dance companies, is selected to compete in the VISA talent show against these companies.
Typically, for the talent show, each dance company composes a 8-10 minute routine to perform. The theme of the routines is generally something international/cultural and the impact various cultures have had upon our society.
Some of the dances in VISA will be very advanced such as Arabian. Hip-Hop will be intermediate, but our Closer will be all-level. We will also be using Hula and Scottish from this semester!! If you are a dedicated, enthusiastic, and performance-loving dancer we want you!
